Widower receives late wife's credit card in mail 10 years after her death
National Australia Bank has been forced to apologise to a widower after issuing a credit card for his wife who died more than 10 years ago.
Bob Hart, from Melbourne, was shocked when he received a letter from NAB for his late wife, Iris, containing a bank card with a pre-approved $2000 daily cash limit.
The credit card was stamped with the code ‘DECD’, acknowledging Ms Hart was deceased, and came with details on the Low Fee Platinum card assigned to her, according to Nine News.
“Just looked at it and said, ‘That’s astonishing’. It’s offensive to receive it,” Mr Hart said.
“The card was the deal of the century apparently, it offered her a credit loan of $2000 a day, which I think she’d probably have trouble taking advantage of right now.”
Mr Hart has been a loyal customer with the NAB for 60 years and described the blunder as disheartening.
NAB General Manager Simone Van Veen said the bank was investigating and apologised for the incident.
“It is with our utmost regret that this incident occurred and I have personally spoken to Mr Hart today to sincerely apologise,” Ms Van Veen told the Herald Sun.
“We understand the stress this has caused Mr Hart and thank him for bringing this to our attention and again offer our most sincere apologies.”
