'Too busy': Married teacher's bizarre excuse in student sex trial

A teacher accused of having sex with a teenage pupil has offered a bizarre explanation for why the alleged rendezvous with the student wasn’t possible.

Kandice Barber, 35, is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student on several occasions including in her 4WD and in a field, and performing a sex act on him in the driveway of her family’s home.

The teen claims one of the incidents occurred on October 10, 2018, however, Ms Barber, who has three children, said her schedule was too busy to allow any time for an affair.

“It couldn’t be possible...on October 10, I had a meeting with the foster care organisation which started at 4.30pm, and (the official) probably left at 6.30pm,” she reportedly told a court Friday (local time).

The woman, from Buckinghamshire in the UK, claimed she and her husband had been trying to foster a child until deciding to try for a baby themselves.

After the meeting with the adoption agency, she said she “would have had to make packed lunches for my children for the next day and sort out their school uniform”.

Around the dates she allegedly met the teen for sex, Ms Barber listed a series of social commitments she claimed prevented her from the illegal acts.

On October 11 she went to a concert with a friend, and on another occasion reportedly had a friend stay over before she took her to the airport.

It was claimed in court the mum searched “good secluded areas” and “alibi” before allegedly having sex with the teen.

The court heard she also made a series of searches on her phone a month before the student alleged they had sex.

Detective Constable Collette Parker said Ms Barber looked up “what is the relationship title of someone you’re having an affair with” at 5am on September 30.

She allegedly searched the word “alibi” later that day, then “when you have a plan of where you’ve been” and “a lie of where you have been”.

The following evening she allegedly searched “good secluded areas” and “Holiday Inn Wycombe” - an establishment in Buckinghamshire.

Ms Barber was also accused of texting the boy to demand he delete photos and messages she sent him, and block her number.

She previously claimed that due to being 152cm, she was physically incapable of performing one of the sexual acts she was accused of.

She has maintained denial she ever had sexual intercourse with the boy.

The trial continues.
