Man's mid-flight proposal outside toilet: 'This is embarrassing'

Video of the special moment has gone viral online, apparently for the wrong reason.

An American man surprised his girlfriend by proposing on a plane, but how he did it has divided people on line.

The sweet act was filmed by other passengers who helped create the special moment — outside the toilet on the aircraft.

Viral footage shows the man down on one knee directly outside the cubicle where his girlfriend was holed up. The entire plane sat in silence as they waited for her to finish and step out to greet her man who was bearing a whopping sparkler.

Some passengers were tasked with holding 'will you marry me' signs while others filmed the loving exchange as it played out. The entire plane cheered and laughed when the woman stood there shocked before saying 'yes' to her husband-to-be.

Viral proposal mocked online

The video has gone viral on social media, but for all the wrong reasons, it seems. Internet users claimed he could have picked a better moment to ask her hand in marriage, and not right after using the toilet.

"This is my nightmare of a proposal," one person said. "I hate walking out of a public bathroom and people are just there," said another. "Imagine taking a dump to come out and everyone recording lol," another person joked while sharing the video on Twitter.

Others said they'd be "annoyed" or "pissed off" if it had happened to them, adding there are much better ways to propose.

"Public proposals are awful, but this is the worst I’ve seen," said one. "This is embarrassing," another agreed.

But the sweet moment wasn't lost on many other who said it was "cute".

"My best wishes to them," said one who congratulated the newly engaged couple. "Aw, this is so sweet. I love it when people come together like this," another wrote.

"Now everyone [on the plane] gotta come to the wedding," added another.
