Man stalked his own girlfriend

A UK woman spent three years being harassed by an internet stalker.

Sexually explicit photos and videos of her were posted on adult websites and distributed to family and friends, including her parents.

Ruth Jeffrey, from Nottingham, took increasing doses of anti-depressants, developed symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder and even considered suicide.

After complaining to police, they eventually tracked down her tormentor, and was sickened to find out it was her own boyfriend.

It's believed 22-year-old Shane Webber launched his twisted campaign because he was jealous of his girlfriend attending university when he had dropped out of school at age 14.

She told The Sun: "He dropped out of school and doesn't have any qualifications. It seemed like he wanted to stop me from getting a degree.

"Throughout the whole relationship he was a bit controlling and possessive, really.

"If I didn't go to see him the moment I had some free time, he would start complaining."

Yesterday, Ruth said she was still trying to recover some of the naked pictures of herself online.

"I want him to be put in prison because he has wrecked the past three and a half years of my life.

"We were really close. We did everything together. I would tell him everything."

The pair met when they were 11-year-olds attending the same school.

It wasn't until she noticed that the details and photos in some of the emails could have been known only by him that she started to suspect him.

When she confronted him, he convinced her that the photos had been stolen from his computer by a friend.

Police seized the friend's computer however found no trace of the emails or photos in question.

Shane was eventually caught when an email containing explicit photos were sent to Ruth's entire contact list, including her father.

Police managed to trace the email back to his computer.

Ruth said: "He was pretending to be a lot of people. The first few times it happened I got annoyed and blocked all the names.

"But it became more frequent. They were all saying, 'I used to fancy you, Ruth. I think you are really good-looking and I want to meet up'.

"He created an account very similar to mine and was speaking to people making out he was me.

"He sent out pictures of me, telling them, 'It's Ruth, I really like you. Here's a picture of me — can you send pictures back?'

"It made me feel sick. I was confused about why these people, who I thought were from school, would be sending me these kind of images. It made me so stressed because it was happening every single day."

Shane has pleaded guilty in court to causing harassment, alarm or distress and will be sentenced next month.
