Man in small car towing skip bin cops huge fine

A man was fined almost $1000 after police caught him illegally towing a skip bin and parking in a “no stopping zone”.

The 59-year-old male driving a small, white hatchback, received a $673 fine for what police described as “use of an unregistered trailer” on the road, and a $263 fine for disobeying a no stopping sign.

NSW Highway Patrol shared a photo of the culprit to its Facebook page on Friday morning, with police revealing the bust had been made on Zaara Street, in Newcastle East.

The post sparked a wave of comedic responses from social media users, as many leaped at the opportunity to poke fun at the bizarre sight.

Well that’s just rubbish,” a pun enthusiast wrote, with another adding, “He’s bin a naughty man.”

He’s wheelie bin a bad boy,” someone else said, while others thought there could have been more to the photo than suggested at first glance.

Did someone relocate the bin, and the driver was dragging it back to its position?,” someone suggested.

Another seemed to agree, writing, “Are you serious? He was probably just pulling it back into his basement after it got emptied so give the man a break.”
