QLD man narrowly avoids jail time after drowning his neighbour's dog
A Brisbane man has avoided prison after he killed his neighbour's dog.
Kerry Findlay, 44, pleaded guilty, claiming the family pet came onto his property and killed one of his prized chickens.
The playful border collie was much loved by his Bracken Ridge owner, who described him as "very funny, very intelligent."
But in August, Thunder went onto Mr Findlay's property and found his way into the chicken coop.
Mr Findlay, a smoke alarm installer, then drowned the dog.
The prosecutor said bruising had been found on Thunder's neck and head, indicating he had been held down with force.
It could have taken up to three minutes for him to drown.

But Mr Findlay's defence claimed no premeditation or planning were involved.
The court heard he drowned the dog in a fit of rage because it killed his favourite white silky chicken.
"We didn't see any evidence of remorse, and there was certainly no remorse at the time of offending," RSPCA spokesperson Tracey Jackson said.
Mr Findlay was sentenced to six months in jail, but was given immediate parole.
"I do think it will set a good example and it will remind people that they have to follow the law," Ms Jackson said.
But Thunder's owner Megan Grealy said she wished Mr Findlay had been made to serve jail time.
Mr Findlay has to report to his parole officer for the next six months for taking the life of a much-loved pet.
