Man injured as car falls from cliff

A car has fallen over a cliff in Guernsey, sparking a major operation to rescue the man inside.

Guernsey Police confirmed he is alive and emergency services have freed him from the Smart car, which fell from the main car park at Jerbourg at about 09:30 BST.

The force said his initial injuries were treated before being taken by ambulance to hospital, where he is believed to be in a non-life threatening condition.

A major incident has been declared and the coastguard, ambulance and fire services are also in attendance.

Fire crews have been attempting to recover car from the cliff face, where it is lodged in dense shrubbery, with the assistance of police.

The public has been advised to avoid the area.
