Man finds $2 million winning lotto ticket in his car

A man who completely forgot about his lotto entry ended up scooping a $2 million division one prize after finding it on the passenger seat of his car.

The Western Sydney man was one of 10 division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Lotto’s $20 Million Superdraw.

He described the win as “pure craziness” after getting into his car on Monday while completely oblivious to the multi-million dollar piece of paper on the seat next to him.

“I only checked the ticket this morning. I jumped into my car and saw the ticket there, and I’d completely forgotten about it,” he told The Lott.

“When I scanned it over and saw I had won I just couldn’t believe it! It’s honestly amazing.”

He said he played lotto about once a month and never thought he would actually win.

With millions soon to drop into his account, he said he would inject some of it into some home renovations and the rest would come in handy for his retirement.

“We really want to do some renovations on our home. So this will certainly allow us to do that. And my wife and I are both semi-retired so we will put this towards our retirement fund and will be able to just really enjoy ourselves. It will be incredible.”

The man purchased his winning ticket at Robertson Newsagency in the NSW Southern Highlands.

“This is wonderful. There’s plenty of excitement around. In the current climate with all the uncertainty, fancy being able to hand a $2 million winning ticket to someone,” owner Hope Waters said.

“All our customers are incredibly excited to hear the news, and they are all hoping it will be them next time. Congratulations to our winner. We hope they really enjoy it and can put their winnings to good use.”

Of the 10 winners, four were from New South Wales, three from Victoria, and one each from Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.

There are more chances to win in Tuesday’s Oz Lotto offering $10 million, while Thursday’s Powerball has $20 million up for grabs.

This week, Monday and Wednesday Lotto is offering Cascade Celebrations, where $1 million is shared by all winning divisions in each draw if there is no division one winner.
