Man dragged 50m by Joondalup train

A man is recovering in hospital after being dragged 50m along the platform by a train at Glendalough station.

A Public Transport Authority (PTA) spokesperson said the man was seen running towards a departing train on the Joondalup line about 2.20pm.

He allegedly started punching and kicking the moving carriage because he could not get on board, then slipped and became caught between the train and platform.

The man was dragged by the north-bound train until the platform ended and then fell onto the tracks.

His jacket was located at one end of the station while he was being treated at the other.

The man, aged in his 20s, was conscious and talking to St John paramedics before being carried on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he was in a stable condition this afternoon.

Transit guards and emergency services personnel collected the man's belongings, which were strewn along the tracks.

Services on Joondalup and Mandurah lines were delayed for about 40 minutes as a result of the accident, which is being investigated by the PTA.
