Despite living in the same apartment block for six years, a rental tenant had been blissfully unaware of an entire "secret room" concealed behind two locked doors.

That was until Eric Baker's girlfriend moved in and noticed an exterior window that was not part of either of the two apartments in the complex, both of which Mr Baker had lived in.

In a post to Facebook, Mr Baker said he "suddenly got very confused" after being "slapped with the reality that the window was not a part of either apartment".

Setting out to investigate, Mr Baker leaned his body out of a window in his current apartment and managed to take a few photos through the window he had never previously noticed.

"When I leaned back in and looked at the pics I was floored! It was full of all sorts of stuff," he revealed in his post.

He joked that among the mess he saw in the photos, there was "probably a body somewhere".

Photos showed a collection of old household items including a couch, pedestal fan and an old-school computer monitor inside the room, all covered in a thick layer of dust.

"Seems pretty obvious that it had some level of habitation at some point, whether before or after being sealed," Mr Baker wrote.

"It’s nearly unfathomable that a space this size could go unnoticed for so long. [There is] construction leftovers, a coffee pot, computer, sock over the smoke alarm, [and] old rock wool insulation everywhere," he said.

Room had been untouched since the 90s

He said his landlord was equally shocked by the room, which he claimed must have been that way since before he acquired the building in the 90s.

In a later update to his post, Mr Baker said he had not dared to enter the room, but planned to eventually gain access through the locked door that connected it with his apartment.

"We do have plans to put in a door and make it into a storage space at minimum. But until everything gets put in place to do that, I can’t have a gaping hole in from my bedroom into that space," he said.

More than 1000 people were awestruck by his discovery, and urged him to find a way to get into the room, as well as the old computer.

"You can't just know about this space and still choose to not find a way in. You have to now. We have all invested our souls into this room and must know more! Please update original pos," one person wrote in a comment.

"We’re gonna need you to harness up and get into that window," another said.

"I need that computer to be booted up," someone else wrote.
