A man has died falling from a cliff onto the rocks below in Sydney's eastern suburbs on Friday night.

At around 10.30pm on Friday, emergency services were called to a golf course on Military Road in North Bondi, following reports a man has fallen from a cliff.

NSW Police said in a statement the man had fallen about 10 metres, landing on rocks below.

Once at the scene, the 50-year-old man was located by officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command.

The man had significant head injuries and died at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Officers said a crime scene was established and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Earlier this month, a man was slammed for sunbathing on a cliff in Bondi, with locals concerned about the dangerous stunt.

"Aside from fencing, staying clear of obvious risk points such a cliff edges is just common sense," Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos told Yahoo News Australia at the time.

"Council calls on all residents and visitors to avoid this dangerous behaviour."

The famed cliffs near Bondi Beach and surrounds attract people throughout the year.
