Man bitten by dangerous snake on Queensland's Fraser Island

A man has been airlifted to hospital after he was bitten on the hand by a snake on Queensland’s Fraser Island.

Queensland Ambulance confirmed to Yahoo7 News that the man, in his 60s, was airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital after he was bitten at about 1.30am on Monday.

The man was reportedly on the verandah of his island accommodation when he was bitten by what is understood to be a venomous black whip snake, RACQ LifeFlight told Yahoo7 News.

The man was in a stable condition when the RACQ Life Flight rescue helicopter arrived at Eurong.

According to the Queensland Government, the black whip snake is grey or dark brown to black venomous snake which grows to one metre in length on average.

Its habitat ranges from open woodlands to dry forests and is active during the day feeding on small animals such as lizards.

The incident comes just days after the bodies of two missing teens were found on the island.
