Man almost misses out on $1m Lotto win after forgetting about ticket
A western Sydney dad, who completely forgot he'd bought a Lotto ticket, is in shock after discovering he’s won $1 million.
The Penrith man said he usually checks his tickets straight away but had been running late for work and it slipped his mind.
Three weeks later, a sleepless night jogged his memory.
“Then the other day, I could not sleep at all, and at about 4 in the morning I got up and was just going through some old things when I found the ticket,” he said.
“So I looked at the winning numbers online, and since I mark my ticket, I recognised that they were my numbers straight away.”
He couldn’t believe his eyes, checking the ticket he purchased at the Werrington Country Newsagency about 100 times.
“I actually had just been scammed not long before that, so I was a bit wary,” he explained.
“Then I ran to my daughter's bedroom and dragged her straight out of bed so she could check the ticket too. I was too anxious to wait until she woke up, and there was no way I could sleep.
“We could not believe it when we realised it was true. There was definitely no sleeping for either of us after that. It was crazy! It was just insane!”
The next person he told was his brother, who couldn’t stop crying when he heard the news.
“He knows I have been through some tough times in recent years. I guess everyone has had their struggles, but it really will change my life.”
Sydney dad plans to use Lotto win to buy home
After having a few drinks that following morning to celebrate, the jubilant man started to consider how he’d spend his windfall.
“I am going to buy myself a house. It will be much better than renting,” he shared.
“I want to get myself a new boat for fishing with the kids, too. It’s going to make my life so much easier!”
