'Majestic' eagle cools down as temperatures soar during Victoria's heatwave

While Victorians sizzled during Friday’s heatwave, this is how one “majestic” creature cooled down, thanks to conservation workers.

Footage shows a delighted wedge-tailed eagle named Zorro being sprayed with water as an employee at Ballarat’s Full Flight Birds of Prey Centre cools him down as temperatures peaked at 41C.

A raptor conservation centre employee shared the video of Zorro beating the heat to Instagram while the state sweltered.

“We’re suffering a massive heatwave in Australia right now. Trying to keep cool,” user ‘BirdsJade’ wrote alongside the video.

She also shared the clip to Reddit, where many were mesmerised by the large bird.

“I assure you he is absolutely loving life,” she wrote on Reddit.

Jade said the eagle’s lead was long enough to allow him to get into the shade during the heat, and reported that the pair were sitting together in the shade at the moment.

One Redditor described the eagle as “majestic”.

Another added: “What a beautiful creature.”

Jade said Zorro came to the conservation centre from Adelaide Zoo as a chick. Her Instagram account is filled with incredible pictures of the pair, among amazing images of close encounters with other creatures.
