Magistrate refuses to watch coward punch on CCTV

This is the shocking moment a fight broke out in a Queensland cab rank and ended in a brutal coward punch which was captured on CCTV.

A 26-year-old man has been captured on camera punching a stranger at a cab rank in Maroochydore in a brutal attack.

The footage shows Tyson Wylie jumping the railing at the cab rank and punching the stranger three times in the face before he fell. The third punch knocking him out cold.

The injuries to the victims face were said to be significant with several fractures occuring.

Police yesterday offered the CCTV as evidence, however Magistrate Rod Madsen refused to watch it stating, “I don’t like watching videos, they can be very subjective".

"They can become emotive ... I rely on the evidence and facts”.

Tyson Joel Wylie was ordered to pay $5000 in compensation and imposed a 24-month prison term, wholly suspended for three years.

Defence barrister Simone Bain said in court that her client was remorseful and under stress due to the breakup of his marriage.

Police said they will consider appealing the decision.
