Lukewarm response

They were accused of "trying too hard to be fancy" in their final instant restaurant cook-off last night but South Australian mums Bree May and Jessica Liebich have still managed to nab a place in the My Kitchen Rules top four.

The Adelaide duo set out to turn their usual rustic fare into fine-dining dishes, attempting to spruce up recipes such as Mexican chicken mole and pig cheeks, which prompted judges Manu Feildel and Pete Evans to comment they wished the women had stuck with their signature home-cooking style.

Despite lukewarm feedback from their rival teams, May and Liebich were saved from the chopping block when their overall score of 63 out of 100 landed them in second place, behind surfer dads Paul Bullpitt and Blair Tonkin.

Still sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard, Tasmanian besties Thalia Papadakis and Bianca Johnston will only be saved from elimination if the final team yet to cook, twins Helena and Vikki Moursellas, get a worse score when they plate up today at 7.30pm on Seven/GWN7.

Perth duo Chloe James and Kelly Ramsay are safe from elimination, having landed a spot in the top four on Monday night.

Meanwhile, the Tassie girls' tearful possible end to their MKR cooking journey was a massive ratings success, with Monday night's highly emotional episode drawing 1.877 million national viewers to become the most-watched show of the night, according to OzTAM.

The episode was also the most- watched TV show in Perth, with 251,000 viewers tuning in.
