Lotto winners sure $4.8 million win is 'prank crafted by mates'

A Queensland couple almost hung up on lotto officials on Monday after believing their $4.8 million win was a prank created by friends.

The man and woman, from the Gold Coast, hold the only division one winning entry in Sunday’s Set for Life draw 2173 and will receive $20,000 a month for 20 years.

The pair were just about to head off to work when they received the exciting call from The Lott.

“Is this real? Are you actually a real person?” the winning woman laughed.

“Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!

“This is such good news! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Holy moly!

“All of our dreams can come true now. This is incredible. It’s a dream come true!

The woman said she had “always been pretty lucky” when it came to lottery tickets, so she always believed she would “win big one day”.

“But I always imagined the prize would be $80,000, not $4.8 million!

“I need to get my husband. Can you repeat this news to him?”

“Holy sh**! Are you sure you’re not pranking us?” the happy husband added.

“You don’t sound like any of my mates, so this must be true. Otherwise, I’d be hanging up the phone.

“There’s no way we’re going to work today now. We are going to go out and celebrate. I think we will be a few kilos heavier after today!”

Lotto winners to retire and travel

The couple said they will now be able to retire from work and share their prize with their big family.

“I can move my dad into a nice place and just make life better for him. That’s the most important thing,” the woman said.

“We’ve saved our entire lives, so now we can use this prize to just enjoy life.

“There will be a few holidays too. For now, it’s just going to have to be around Australia until we can go overseas again.”

The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 2173 on Sunday July 18 were 1, 11, 27, 17, 2, 16 and 8, while the supplementary numbers were 10 and 34.
