Locals stunned after fanged carcass washes up on tourist beach

The beachside discovery left locals stunned.

A scary-looking fanged creature has washed up on a popular tourist beach – but experts have moved to quash any fears from locals over its gruesome appearance.

The unsightly discovery was found lying among vegetation in an advanced state of decomposition. Stunned fisherman found the creature which appeared to have four limbs, an elongated head, and a row of sharp teeth. In photos taken at the beach, the carcass appears to also have fur.

The remains were found washed up on Pico de Oro Beach, located in Tabasco, southwest of tourist hotspot Cancun in Mexico.

The images of the carcass were widely shared on social media, sparking fear among locals who said they had never seen anything like it. Experts calmed concerns by pointing out that the decomposing animal has all the characteristics of a seal.

The fishermen who found the body also said that they believed the rotting life form was a seal. However seals are not typically found in the Gulf of Mexico and instead on the Pacific Ocean side of the country.

It is unclear if the local authorities arrived to remove the carcass from the popular beach. It is also unknown if they took samples to confirm the species and its exact cause of death.

Last year a bizarre-looking skeleton partially buried in the sand on a Queensland beach caused a similar stir.
