Woolworths refuses to apologise as premier gatecrashes inquiry
Woolworths chief commercial officer Paul Harker says the supermarket hasn't "done anything wrong" when asked by Queensland Premier Steven Miles to apologise to the public over grocery prices.
Miles was an unexpected attendee at the parliamentary probe into supermarket prices, and fired into representatives from both Coles and Woolworths.
“I’m trying to understand what I’m actually apologising for," Harker said in response.
Four Vietnamese people have been found near WA's coastal town of Broome after arriving illegally by boat, bringing further scrutiny of the country's border protection.
The “unauthorised maritime arrivals” came to Australia's shores on Friday morning, Guardian Australia reported.
It comes after 33 illegal arrivals were found on Christmas Island after their boat was destroyed in bad weather. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stressed adequate funding is in place for the Australian Border Force who ensure anyone arriving in such a fashion do not settle in the country.

Man allegedly spears dingo to death on K'gari
A dingo has been killed after a man allegedly speared it to death on K'gari.
The man said the dingo was lingering around his campsite on April 19 before the alleged attack with a speargun. Authorities are now investigating the man of offences under the Nature Conservation Act 1992, which prohibits the deliberate harm of dingoes.
The man presented to the deaprtement the day after the alleged attack and is cooperating with officials.

Remarkable lack of sun for millions on east coast
It's been a miserable May so far for millions along the NSW coast, with a horrid streak of rainy days.
Sydneysiders have endured 13 days straight of rain, resulting in nearly double the average rainfall for the month.
But another remarkable statistic is the lack of sun they've had. According to Weatherzone, the city has had "exceptionally low average sunshine hours" during May, sitting at just 2.5 hours a day. The long-term average for May is more than double that at 5.9 hours.

Plane with failed landing gear lands safely
There's a huge sense of relief at Newcastle Airport as a plane with mechanical issues has safely landed.
Cheers could be heard from crews on the ground as the plane slid to a halt after landing in what is called a "belly landing".

Circling plane 'practising' emergency landing
A light aircraft is readying itself for an emergency landing after more than two hours circling Newcastle Airport.
The aircraft has mechanical issues involving its landing gear. ABC reporter Giselle Wakatama said the plane has been flying low in what appears to be practice runs for its landing, which is expected to be a "belly landing" without its landing gear.
Earlier reports suggested five people were onboard the plane, however the ABC understands there are three people.
The wet conditions are reportedly hampering the operation, which is expected to take place in the next half an hour.

A plane continues to circle above Newcastle airport as vision from the ABC shows emergency crews waiting below.
It is reportedly attempting to burn fuel before attempting to land with a mechanical issue.

An emergency incident is unfolding at Newcastle airport where a plane is circling above with reported landing gear failure.
Witnesses reported multiple emergency service vehicles rushing to the airport, the ABC reported.
Nine News reports it's believed five people are onboard.

Sydney moves closer to unwanted rain record
Another day and it's more rain for Sydney. Monday's early showers means its 14 consecutive days of rain for millions.
The city's record stretch stands at 16 days of rain, set in 2022 and 1943. The Bureau of Meteorology says there is a slight chance of a showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Aussie state looks to ban social media for kids
The South Australian government is pressing ahead with plans to ban social media for children under 14.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said social media had played its role in a "dramatic spike" in childhood depression and anxiety, pointing to several studies on the matter.
"I think we're at the point now where governments have to act," he told ABC News Breakfast on Monday.
