Woman freed from dungeon after 10 years of torture and giving birth to captor's children
A woman who endured more than a decade of horrific torture, rape and even gave birth to her captor's children while imprisoned in a basement, has finally been freed.
Aloisio Francesco Rosario Giordano was this week arrested, accused of keeping the 29-year-old woman prisoner in a basement under his shed in Gizzeria, Italy.
The disturbing series of events commenced shortly after the 52-year-old was released from prison for a nearly identical crime in 1995.
He spent four years in prison for the kidnap, rape and torture of another woman but was released early on good behaviour to care for his terminally ill wife and their two children.
Shortly after his release, he hired a 19-year-old Romanian carer to help him cope.
It’s there police allege the situation turned sinister and soon after his wife’s death, he locked the teenager inside a rat-infested room.
A decade of unfathomable suffering would follow.
During this time, the trapped woman gave birth to her kidnapper’s two children, a son now aged nine and a daughter now aged three.
It’s alleged the children grew up in the dungeon and were forced to watch the torture of their mother.
Their nightmare may have never ended had it not been for police randomly pulling over Giordano due to the poor condition of his car.
Inside they noticed a malnourished boy sleeping on the backseat – sparking suspicions and prompting a visit to his dishevelled home.
There they found the trapped woman and second child living in squalor.
Grim photos from the scene show a decomposing makeshift toilet and cardboard beds positioned among the rancid room.
Giordano was arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault and mistreatment.
The mother and her children were taken into protective custody and have been moved to an undisclosed location.
