Keeping Up Appearances actor Clive Swift dies after short illness

British actor Clive Swift, best known for his role in the British comedy ‘Keeping Up Appearances’, has died aged 82.

Swift died on Friday morning after suffering a short illness, The Independent reported.

Born in Liverpool, in England’s northwest, in 1936, the esteemed actor was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and appeared in Doctor Who and Inspector Morse.

He enjoyed a long career in film and television spanning more than 40 years.

From 1990 to 1995, Mr Swift starred in the BBC series ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ as Richard Bucket, the long-suffering husband of class-conscious housewife Hyacinth Bucket played by Patricia Routledge.

Swift was married to writer Margaret Drabble from 1960 to 1975.

He had a daughter who died in 2017 and two sons, The Mirror reported.
