Hunt for man after two teenagers found dead in Sydney shooting
A man is on the run after a shooting in Sydney’s northwest left two teenagers dead.
Officers responded to gunshots reported on Hull Road in West Pennant Hills, 20km northwest of the city’s CBD, at about 5.20pm on Thursday, discovering a teenage boy and girl deceased inside a property’s bedroom.
“At this stage the person we are looking for is still at large,” North West Metropolitan Region Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden, told reporters.
Police are actively searching for the man in the area, which has been cordoned off with dozens of officers present.
“Investigations have commenced into the circumstances of those deaths,” Acting Assistant Commissioner McFadden said.
“The Ryde area command are working very closely with the homicide squad and we have identified a person of interest who we are currently seeking.”
The man police are looking for is believed to be in his 50s. Police believe it was a targeted incident and the man at large poses no threat to the community.
Early investigations suggest the incident may be a domestic violence-related matter, police say.
A woman, believed to be the mother of the children, turned up to the scene shortly after police arrived and is being treated for severe shock.
Acting Assistant Commissioner McFadden described the scene as “absolutely horrific”.
The ages of the deceased and their relationship to each other are yet to be confirmed.
