Human remains and belongings of Brian Laundrie uncovered in search

Partial human remains have reportedly been found at a Florida wilderness park – the same area where items belonging to Brian Laundrie, the missing boyfriend of strangled woman Gabby Petito, were found hours earlier.

A senior law enforcement official said the remains were discovered in Carlton Reserve which was previously underwater, according to NBC News.

There is no indication at this stage the remains are Mr Laundrie's.

Earlier on Wednesday, "some articles belonging to Brian" were found in the same area, according to a statement by Laundrie attorney Steven Bertolino.

One of the items is understood to be a backpack.

Local news station WFLA 8 shared helicopter vision of a tent erected amongst trees in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park which neighbours Carlton Reserve.

Mr Laundrie remains the only person of interest in police's investigations into the death of Ms Petito, whose body was found in a Wyoming camping area on September 19.

The pair had embarked on a van trip together, documenting their travels on social media.

Mr Laundrie, 23, was reportedly last seen by his parents on September 14, who say he never returned from a hike.

Both his parents were involved in Wednesday's search, which is located close to their family home, NBC reported.

The local medical examiner has been called to the scene by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

It comes as at least seven other bodies were discovered in the search for Mr Laundrie.

The story of Ms Petito's disappearance and subsequent death has gripped not only the US but many across the world.

The search for Mr Laundrie has sparked multiple unverified sightings while a host of far-fetched theories continue to circle on social media regarding his whereabouts.

The coroner recently concluded Ms Petito died of strangulation and her body had been in the Grand Teton National Park for up to four weeks.

The couple were stopped by police on August 12 following an altercation. An emotional Ms Petito featured on bodycam footage later released by police.

Mr Laundrie returned home alone from the their trip in the white Ford van they were using on September 1.
