How to score a free breakfast each week

If you work in certain industries, there is a free breakfast on offer at most Bunnings Warehouse stores.

Every Bunnings branch has a trade specialist who looks after the retailer's relationships with local professional tradespeople, especially those that hold PowerPass trade accounts.

And as a gesture of goodwill, trade specialists in many Bunnings stores will regularly host free breakfasts for all tradies – not just PowerPass members.

Typically a hot egg-and-bacon sandwich and an orange juice might be offered. Some outlets may also allow children of the tradies to come along, according to internet forums.

Yahoo Finance understands the "trade breakfast" is held weekly at most branches, but is offered solely on the discretion of the local trade specialist. So some outlets may hold it twice a week, and some fortnightly.

"Typically trade breakfasts run from opening for a couple of hours in the morning to support early morning tradies in store so they can drop in, grab a bite to eat, and get back on the road," a Bunnings spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.

"The Trade Breakfasts give the Bunnings team an opportunity to show appreciation to local PowerPass customers and build relationships."

Bunnings also occasionally conducts national trade breakfasts, where all branches provide a free meal on the same morning. This is usually to celebrate milestones like the end-of-financial-year, Christmas or product launches.

Professionals bring in far more revenue than a typical domestic customer, so it's not surprising the hardware chain goes to such lengths to develop relationships.

"Trade breakfasts are just one example of numerous offers and initiatives we have to look after our tradies. A few examples are fresh fruit on trade desks, water in summer, hot soup in winter and free coffee offer at most trade desks," said the Bunnings spokesperson.

Bunnings commercial general manager Rod Caust told Yahoo Finance that the trade specialist in each store plays a significant role.

"They manage trade quotes, product knowledge, arranging deliveries and pick-ups to make sure tradies have someone they can call for the right advice, get what they need and get in and out as quickly as possible."

There are more than 860,000 PowerPass customers and more than 5,000 PowerPass Apprentice clients. Those customers are also invited to Trade Expos held across Australia and New Zealand each year.
