Horsley to coach

Veteran local hockey player Geoff Horsley prolonged consistency in the game has been highlighted after he was named the Player of the Tournament by the umpires at the recent national hockey masters championships.

Horsley represented WA Country alongside fellow Goldfields player Tony Chisholm in the over 50s category – knocked out in the semi-finals of the two-week Sydney tournament.

Fellow locals Brent Kail and Tim Berryman also competed in the over 35s and over 40s division respectively.

Admitting it was nice to gain personal recognition, the 50-year-old was left a little disappointed following his absence in the Australian team, despite his dominance.

“I was disappointed – no doubt about that,” Horsley said. “But I obviously didn’t fit the bill for what they were looking for at the time.

“It came as a bit of a surprise to a few people."
