Girl forced into marriage

The girl told police she had been forced into marrying a 33-year-old man eight months ago, but had left because he was sexually abusing her. She had returned home and wanted to live with her father but he refused, forcing her onto the streets.

It was reported in the India Times, the teen had complained about sexual abuse several times to police but it had been ignored.

India Today reported that a police complaint and case was registered this week and an investigation is underway.

Asian News International tweeted that three people have been arrested in an alleged case of rape of a minor married girl on Monday, adding that the victim is reportedly two months pregnant.

According to CNN, India's National Crime Records Bureau said 28,000 cases of alleged rape against women were reported in 2020 — one roughly every 18 minutes.

However, experts believe the real number is much higher as many attacks go unreported out of fear.
