'HORRIFIC CRUELTY': Video of kangaroo impaled by branch sparks RSPCA investigation

WARNING - GRAPHIC CONTENT: Distressing video is circulating of a kangaroo impaled in the head by a tree branch.

The video is being circulated through a number of Facebook groups and it is not clear where it was filmed.

The Courier-Mail, which has viewed the footage, reports it’s 10 seconds long and in it a man laughs and says “f***” at the dead animal’s demise.

Not much else about the video is known but RSPCA Queensland told 7News.com.au it is investigating the matter.

“We can confirm that the matter was reported to our Inspectorate team on September 30, 2021 and is currently under investigation,” a spokesperson said.

They also called it “distressing”.

The video also caught the attention of Mark Pearson with the Animal Justice Party.

“By virtue of the fact the person who took the video is laughing, I am concerned this incident was intentional, and therefore an act of cruelty,” he said in a statement.

“The injury this kangaroo suffered is a horrifying demonstration of the complete lack of respect and empathy that a small minority of Australians have for our beloved national icon.

“I know the majority of Australians condemn this horrific cruelty and would want justice for this kangaroo.”

Mr Pearson welcomed the RSPCA's investigation into the matter.
