Dead Victorian hiker posted chilling selfies before disappearing

A hiker, who has been found dead, posted a number of selfies before he went missing in a state park in Victoria.

David Occhipinti, 35 of Noble Park, went missing on Sunday about 3pm after setting off on a walk through the challenging terrain of Werribee Gorge State Park.

He posted a series of chilling selfies on Facebook in the bushland before he went missing.

Emergency services hoped the photos would lead to finding the 35-year-old.

Police said Mr Occhipinti was familiar with the 10km circuit, which takes hours to complete.

During the search, Detective Senior Sergeant Deon Townsend-Booth said there were a “myriad of possibilities”.

“If he's injured that might be the case he might have found a way out another main road that's another possibility,” he said.

His body was found at the base of the gorge on Monday, about 7pm.

Victoria Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Officers said in a statement released on Monday evening: "Victoria Police would like to thank the large numbers of volunteers, support agencies and the media for their assistance during the search".
