Heartwarming twist after no one shows up to boy's third birthday party

Steven Buck said he felt 'guilty' no one arrived to the eagerly anticipated birthday celebration, so he did something about it.

Pre-schooler William Buck sat patiently with his dad while waiting for his friends to arrive and celebrate his third birthday party on the weekend. However, the longer they waited, the more desperate the situation became.

"He kept asking where everyone was, and we were like 'they’re coming soon'," Steven Buck told Stuff.

Steven admitted his son had been more aware than ever of his upcoming birthday and had asked throughout the month when his birthday was, eagerly anticipating a good time. The unfolding situation at their local beach in Wellington made Steven feel "guilty" and in one last desperate attempt, he turned to social media for help.

Desperate social media plea from William's dad

Steven posted an image of the pair online and invited any locals wanting "some sun and sand" to join them.

"William would love some friends to play with. He has Hot Wheels, sand toys, dinos, and we have some snacks and drinks. Any and all welcome," he wrote.

He explained that due to illness and other unforeseen situations, the original invitees couldn't make it, but desperately wanted his son to enjoy himself — and it worked. The community responded in their thousands, wishing William a 'Happy Birthday' while many others joined the three-year-old and his parents.

"Going there. See you soon," one local wrote, before arriving with her family.

Community 'restored faith' by attending birthday party

The partygoers arrived with bubbles and inflatables, parking themselves down on beach chairs ready to celebrate the sunny day with William.

"Thank you so much everyone for the birthday wishes and support," Steven wrote online after the day. "Wellington you always restore my faith in humanity!"
