The Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss has teased her new spy show The Veil, which comes from Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight.

The FX series explores the fraught relationship between two women who "play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London".

While one has a secret, the other has an objective to reveal the truth "before thousands of lives are lost".

Opening up about the show, Moss explained that she "loves" the spy genre, though suggested fans haven’t "seen this kind of story on television before".

"At least, not in a while," she added. "For that reason, I am excited for people to get hooked by how fun, entertaining and global this story is.

"The Veil is an action-packed and international drama. I think that’s the hook. And then, of course, there are these two characters at the centre of it all," Moss continued.

"Imogen [played by Elisabeth Moss] and Adilah [Yumna Marwan] are the emotional truth and the emotional heart of the story. I think we’ve achieved a great balance between the character drama and the complexity of that, as well as a lot of fun."

The star went on to admit that "this doesn’t really compare to anything else," which is "the point".

"I think that’s what we were going for. We didn’t want to be like any famous movie franchise or book," Moss further explained. "Of course, there are people that have done it so well over the years and we are fans of those people, but we wanted to subvert the genre.

"We wanted to do something new. We wanted to challenge ourselves in that way. It was really important to have a fresh, new take on it."

Moss also revealed that she did "weeks and weeks of training" for the show's stunts, adding: "I have three big fight scenes and each one involved weeks and weeks of physical preparation."

The Veil launches on Disney+ on May 29.
