Hail Falls in Liverpool as Heat Wave Sweeps Europe
Hail fell in Liverpool, England, on Thursday, July 25, surprising residents as a heat wave swept most of Europe the same day.
Video posted to Twitter by author Amanda Brooke shows her dog, Mouse, excitedly chasing hailstones in a Liverpool yard.
The sudden hail came as thunderstorms developed in the area on Thursday afternoon, according to weather reports. In posts on social media, the hailstones appeared to be the size of a quarter.
Elsewhere in Western Europe, a heat wave delivered record-setting temperatures. Paris experienced a record high of 108.7 F (42.6 C), according to news reports.
A number of record highs were recorded in the United Kingdom as well, according to the Met Office, the UK’s national weather service.
Cambridge, England, saw its highest recorded temperature ever at 4 pm: 100.6 F (38.1 C) , according to local media.
