Actress Roz Hammond will hit the stage at the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre tomorrow night with her one-woman show Gym and Tonic.

Well-known through her collaboration with Shaun Micallef and the ABC series The Librarians, Hammond plays eight different characters who all train at the same gym and have stories to tell.

Born in the small country town of Northam, Hammond graduated from the WA Academy of Performing Arts before moving to Melbourne where she is based now.

She said the idea for the play formed when she worked as a personal trainer in women-only gyms in between acting commitments.

"I met women from different backgrounds and many opened up when I worked with them," she said.

"Some of their stories repeated themselves and I used these experiences to write Gym and Tonic which had its premiere in Melbourne about 18 months ago.

"It is a drama with funny parts celebrating women and the love women share with their mothers and daughters.

"Personally, I get great joy and satisfaction out of performing in country towns.

"It is lovely coming to Harvey for the first time and offering residents the opportunity to see something different."

Centre manager David Marshall said tomorrow's show was a special treat for Harvey.

"I would encourage people not to miss this opportunity as we have never had a show like this before," he said.

"It is very unique as it is a one-woman show where Roz Hammond chronicles the life of eight women from different backgrounds.

"Country Arts WA subsidises the show touring country towns and we were fortunate to have had a series of quality performances."
