Goanna and snake in epic battle captured on video
A nail-biting battle between an inquisitive goanna and a python in rural Western Australia has been caught on camera.
Cory Downes uploaded footage of the encounter in Newman to Instagram on Sunday.
In the clip, the goanna can be seen edging closer to the small snake as it checks the reptile out.
In a blink of an eye, the goanna then pounces on the snake, grabbing it with its mouth and thrashing it around.
But the snake then appears to get the upper hand over its attacker by wrapping itself around the goanna’s mouth.
The clip ends with the scrap on a knife’s edge, leaving social media users asking the burdening question as to who came out victor.
“Not the baby python,” Mr Downes revealed, later stating the snake succumbed to its injuries.
The video comes just days after another goanna sank its claws into a Queensland man when he tried to fend it off from a family of peacocks.
