Glory ace looks overseas

Rostyn Griffiths says he wants to play overseas before his career is over and will leave Perth Glory at the end of this season if he gets the right offer.

The defensive midfielder has been one of Perth's most consistent players this campaign, starting in all but one match when he was missing through suspension.

Griffiths has proven a sound signing since joining Glory during last year's mid-season transfer window after past stints with A-League rivals Central Coast Mariners, Adelaide United and North Queensland Fury.

However, his 18-month contract is due to end after the finals.

The 26-year-old has not ruled out joining teammates Scott Jamieson, Dino Djulbic and Nebojsa Marinkovic in re-signing with Perth, but he said an ambition to play outside Australia had been a driving force behind one of his best seasons.

Griffiths spent two years at Blackburn Rovers from 2006 to 2008, but failed to earn an appearance for the English club, which played in the Premier League at the time.

"I've been speaking with the club and keeping dialogue going," Griffiths said.

"I've had a few offers in Asia and places like that. I'm just sort of really weighing up what I want to do.

"I'm coming to that sort of time in my career where I'm turning 27. I think it (the decision) is really imperative.

"What I decide next is going to pretty much define where I'm going to go for the rest of my career.

"I've been taking my time … it'd have to be really right (to go) in the sense that it's not just about money, it's really about a footballing decision.

"In terms of the A-League, I've got no interest in swapping clubs. I'm really happy here. But before I hang my boots up again I'd really like to play overseas."

Fresh injury concerns for Ruben Zadkovich could place added importance on Griffiths' role against second-placed Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Zadkovich limped off the training track with a corked thigh yesterday after a collision during a practice match.

He had been attempting to prove his fitness after missing the club's past two matches with hamstring tightness.

Glory started with Dragan Paljic and Danny De Silva in Zadkovich's absence during last Saturday's 2-2 draw against Brisbane Roar at nib Stadium.

Griffiths said he wouldn't be surprised if there were more changes to the starting line-up before coach Kenny Lowe settled on a team for the finals.

"The good thing about Kenny is he's probably shown that if you train well enough and play well enough, you'll keep your spot," Griffiths said.

"It shows with people like Danny De Silva. He's 17 and starting every week when he's fit.

"It's good to have that. It keeps people on their toes."
