Girl shocked by tap goes from life support to sitting up in wheelchair

The family of an 11-year-old Perth girl left brain damaged by an electric shock, say she is defying medical expectations.

More than two weeks after Denishar Woods' family were told she was brain dead, she was placed in a wheelchair for the first time on Monday.

"Last we were told she wouldn't make it off life support to now, watching her get in the hoist and get in the wheelchair," her mother Lacey Harrison said.

"I just want to bring my baby outside."

Denishar Woods was shocked by up to 230 volts when she touched a garden tap at the family’s public housing property in Beldon in Perth on March 3.

Last Sunday the 11-year-old was taken off her respirator and was able to breathe on her own, as doctors changed her condition from serious to stable.

An EnergySafety investigation is under way into exactly what caused the tap to give off the shock.

“I want answers because I'm going home every night and reliving the moment me and my daughter dropped to the ground,” Ms Harrison said.
