Garcia to coach Inglewood United
Former Australian youth international Michael Garcia has been named head coach of Inglewood United for the 2015 NPL WA season.
Garcia, who played professionally for Canberra Cosmos, Perth Glory and Singapore’s Marine Castle United, replaces outgoing coach Graham Normanton.
Former Dutch international Viktor Sikora – another ex-Glory player – has been named as Garcia’s assistant.
The pair will work in collaboration with technical director Goran Stajic.
Inglewood president Luke Martin was thrilled to land the coaching duo.
“The appointments of Michael and Victor are important steps in building the kind of club – on and off the field – our members and supporters can be excited about,” Martin said.
“Their football philosophies are perfectly aligned with those of the club and they had no hesitation at all in embracing exactly what we are trying to build at Inglewood.”
Martin hoped the new coaching team would bring strong results, but urged fans to be patient.
“We do not expect miracles overnight, nor should anyone else, but we firmly believe that the direction the club is heading in will lead to National Premier Leagues championships,” Martin said.
“We will continue to build the right way as we set a bold, exciting course for this historic club.”
The NPL WA finals series kicks off this weekend, with league winners Bayswater City hosting Perth SC in the major semifinal at Frank Drago Reserve.
Balcatta meet Sorrento in a cutthroat affair at Grindleford Reserve, with the loser eliminated from the title race.
