Dramatic moment kidnapped girl, 8, is rescued from hotel room

Dramatic footage shows the moment an eight-year-old girl is rescued from a hotel room after being kidnapped while walking with her mother.

Michael Webb was sentenced to life in prison last week over the kidnapping of Salem Sabatka along a street in the US state of Texas.

Footage from the initial kidnapping shows her mother scream out for help as a man in a vehicle grabs her daughter and drives off.

Eight hours later as the manhunt for Webb ramps up, police – who had received a tip-off about Webb’s whereabouts – storm a hotel room and pull out an unclothed Webb.

An officer, carrying the child in his arms, rushes down a flight of stairs and brings her to safety.

A federal judge sentenced 51-year-old Webb on Thursday in Fort Worth after a jury convicted him in September.

Webb admitted to the FBI that he snatched the girl on May 18 in Fort Worth while fighting off her mother.

Police in nearby Forest Hill initially searched Webb’s hotel room early the next day but didn’t find her.

Two hours later, after getting another tip, Forest Hill and Fort Worth police responded. The girl was found hidden in a laundry basket.

The Forest Hill police chief fired a sergeant who expressed doubt about the tip that led to the second visit.

County prosecutors indicated they will not drop pending child sexual assault charges against Webb despite his life sentence, CBS DFW reported.
