Flight attendant slapped by passenger who refused to wear a mask

Passengers have filmed a confrontation between a defiant anti-masker and a flight attendant on board a plane from Miami to Atlanta.

A video of the incident was posted to social media and shows a passenger appearing to slap a female flight attendant in the face.

“She’s in her face, oh lord, oh lord,” someone can be heard saying, at which point the passenger strikes at the flight attendant.

A clip of the incident was shared on Twitter by BBC journalist Suzanne Kianpour, who said the passenger was refusing to wear a mask despite the airline’s policy requiring passengers to do so.

“Here’s what happened on our Delta flight from #Miami to #Atlanta tonight after a passenger refused to wear a mask as per policy and then gets into altercation with flight attendant,” she posted alongside the video.

It appears the flight successfully landed in Atlanta with the airline offering assistance to Ms Kianpour for any connecting flights she may have required.

Many online were highly critical of the passenger who lashed out at airline staff.

“The TSA needs to permanently ban these people from all flights,” one commented, while others wondered why some Americans react so violently to being asked to wear a mask.

Domestic flights in the United States have surged back with the country’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) releasing a press release overnight saying it screened more than one million passengers on Sunday (local time) in airports across the country.

The figure, from a single day, is the highest number of passengers screened at TSA checkpoints since March 17.

But its not just American airline passengers that are causing trouble during the pandemic. A flight from Belfast to Edinburgh was disrupted on October 18 as a woman had to be escorted off the aircraft for not wearing a mask.

Video taken on board the Easyjet flight shows the woman’s angry tirade as she leaves the plane, coughing on passengers as she goes.

The woman was removed for “behaving disruptively on board and refusing to wear their face covering,” the airline said, adding that police were called to the scene.

While collecting her possessions, the woman can be heard saying, “Everybody dies. If it’s corona or not.”
