The Constable suffered the injury as the arrested 18-year-old woman was in transit to Mandurah Police Station on Friday evening after an altercation at Smart Street Mall.

The officer is currently awaiting the results of a mandatory blood test.

“This assault is absolutely disgusting, deplorable and completely out of line,” WA Police Union President George Tilbury said.

“Police officers give their all for the community and do not deserve to be assaulted while they are doing their job.

“The full force of the law must come down on this offender, as the community and our Members will accept nothing less.”

Police had initially arrested and charged the woman with disorderly conduct and obstructing police.

She was allegedly trying to fight people in the street near the shopping centre, the Mandurah Mail reported.
