Recently married Aussie dad killed in horror motorbike crash

An Aussie father-of-two who was killed in a horror motorcycle collision on Sunday night has been remembered as "just a great bloke" and "one of the good guys".

Adelaide man Bradley Thompson, 45, was riding his motorcycle home from work when the vehicle collided with a Mazda at the intersection of Elizabeth Way and Philip Highway in Elizabeth — in the city's north — at 8.15pm on Sunday.

It's understood Thompson, from Evanston Park, died at the scene, with family members and his second wife Karen by his side, The Adelaide Advertiser reported.

Thompson's death 'such a loss'

Thompson was a well-known and much-loved staff member at Adelaide Zoo, where he worked as security officer. “Brad was known to all of us at Zoos SA and our hearts go out to his family and friends,” Zoos SA Chief Executive Elaine Bensted said.

He's being remembered by loved ones as somebody who would do anything for a friend, with his death described as "such a loss".

As floral tributes mounted for the father at the scene, friends and family told of their heartbreak.

“He was just a great bloke, he’d do anything for you,” friend Michelle Palmer said.

“He’d come round and help. It’s going to be such a loss to the group of friends.”

Jamie Palmer, another friend, said Thompson was “one of the good guys”.

Thompson's friends have vowed to rally around his children, who now have lost both parents following the death of his first wife to cancer some time ago.

Aussie father 97th person killed on SA roads in 2023

The Phillip Highway and surrounding areas were closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene on Sunday. The driver of the car — a 29-year-old Elizabeth Park man — was not injured during the accident but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

He was later arrested and charged with aggravated driving without due care and for driving disqualified.

Thompson's death marks the 20th motorcyclist to die on South Australian roads this year. He is the 97th person to be killed on the state's roads in 2023 — compared with 61 at the same time last year.
