One person dead and three others injured in suspected shooting near school in New Zealand

One person is dead and three others injured after a suspected shooting near a school on New Zealand’s North Island.

The shooting unfolded at a property near rural Kawhia, on the island’s west coast, at 4am, police confirmed.

Hauturu school remains closed and parents are warned to keep their children at home as investigations continue, The New Zealand Herald reported.

The publication reported there was a Toyota SUV under riddled with bullets pulled up next to the school.

One person is assisting with police enquiries, Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley said.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

The three injured have been transported to hospital in a “moderate” condition.
