Family of slain Bali officer prepare to say goodbye

The family of slain Bali police officer Wayan Sudarsa are preparing to farewell the father-of-two as Byron Bay woman Sara Connor still awaits her fate in jail.

Sudarsa’s family have gathered at their village in Bali to prepare for his farewell, with his widow Ketut Arsini in good spirits despite the death of her husband.

7 News was invited back to the village by the family, but they can’t comment on the case given prosecutors are still deciding whether there is enough evidence to charge Ms Connor and her boyfriend David Taylor.

“We will re-invite the spirit of Wayan and then carry out the cremation ceremony,” a family spokesperson said.

It is expected Mr Sudarsa’s cremation will be held before prosecutors finalise any charges for Ms Connor and Mr Taylor.

Mr Sudarsa is to be farewelled in the coming days, while police have just four more days to decide the fate of the accused duo.

Both Mr Taylor and Ms Connor have been held on suspicion, without formal charge since Mr Sudarsa died on August 16.

Just last week Denpasar district detective chief Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan said police were pushing for the pair, who have been named suspects in the death of local police officer Wayan Sudarsa, to be charged with murder, assault causing death and manslaughter.

Ms Connor's lawyer Erwin Siregar has maintained his client's innocence and says the mother-of-two denies claims she hit Mr Sudarsa.
