'Failed journalist': Host calls Trump lawyer 'completely mad' in fiery on-air clash

A fiery live on-air clash has erupted, with British TV host Piers Morgan telling President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer he’s gone “completely mad”.

Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani kicked off on the Good Morning Britain program on Thursday (local time) when Morgan asked about the president’s tweet amid the US protests, which said: “When the looting starts, the shooting starts”.

Twitter responded by hiding the tweet as it was a breach of the social media platform’s rules against glorifying violence.

When Morgan asked Giuliani why Trump tweeted the quote, the lawyer claimed it wasn’t inflammatory and in fact accurate.

His response triggered Morgan to tell the lawyer he’s “lost the plot”.

“You sound completely barking mad,” Morgan said.

Giuliani hit back at Morgan, saying he knew why the journalist’s former show with CNN had been cancelled in 2014.

“So don’t tell me I’ve lost anything,” Giuliani said.

The lawyer claimed Morgan was defaming the president and helping create violence in the US the way he was covering the US protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

Morgan clapped back: “When I used to interview you, you were an intelligent, reasonable man and you’ve gone completely mad, and you sound deranged, you’re abusive and it’s really sad to see what’s happened to you.”

Giuliani said what was sad was seeing Morgan’s career “implode” in the US.

“If you think I have any respect for you after this, well maybe you don’t care,” he said.

“Everyone in America knows you’re a failed journalist.”

As Morgan’s co-host tried to break up the argument, Morgan said he had the stomach to call out that America’s gun culture was “completely out of control and unacceptable”.

The co-host then wrapped up the interview as Giuliani yelled: “disgraceful”.
