Drunk women who bashed paramedic say they should avoid jail
Two drunk women who bashed a paramedic in Melbourne say they should be spared time behind bars because they’re loving mums who want to help the community.
Amanda Warren and Caris Underwood appealed mandatory jail terms, to the dismay of their victim, whose career has been ruined.
A magistrate sentenced them in December but they appealed and have avoided time in prison.
The pair brutally bashed paramedics Paul Judd and Chenaye Bentley as they tried to work on a drug affected man in Reservoir in May 2016.
Warren told Mr Judd he wasn’t doing a good job and tried to give the man a glass of water.
When the veteran paramedic of 40 years told her to move back, she punched him in the face.
As the 61-year-old fell to the ground, Warren and Underwood punched and kicked him.
Ms Bentley tried to come to his aid and was also punched in the head.

Mr Judd hasn’t been able to return to work following the attack and Ms Bentley suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.
But lawyers for the two mothers told Victoria’s County Court they need to be with their children, while their tough upbringings should be taken into account.
The judge was told Caris Underwood now wants to get on with her life and help the community.
Those words were too much for the paramedics, who both walked out of the court room.
For now, the women remain free on bail while the two paramedics struggle to move on.
