Driver's 'deceptive act' after allegedly hitting child with SUV

A police search is underway for a motorist in Victoria who allegedly struck a six-year-old boy before providing fake details and fleeing the scene.

Victoria Police say the child was hit by an SUV as he crossed Brush Road in the northern Melbourne suburb of Epping on Tuesday night.

The child had exited a vehicle on the side of the road before he was allegedly hit.

The driver of the white Nissan Patrol stopped at the scene to provide his details before leaving prior to police arriving.

Police say man provided fake details

However police allege the driver provided false details while the vehicle's registration, DCA86E, belongs to a different vehicle.

An image of the vehicle has been released in a bid to locate the driver, while police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The driver is described as Caucasian in appearance, in his late 20’s, with scruffy hair and a short beard.

The child suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital following the incident.
