Daughter's 'missed phone call' almost costs dad $200k Lotto win
A man missed out on discovering some life-changing news over the phone after his daughter mistook a very important call for a scam.
The man from Padstow, in Sydney's southwest, won $200,000 in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1526 on Tuesday, however it took him a while to get the good news.
“When you initially called yesterday my daughter answered, but she thought it was just a scam,” the Sydney resident explained to an official from The Lott on Wednesday.
“She came over to me and said, ‘We’ve just received a really weird call, but I don’t believe what they’re saying’."
The man then decided to head down to the newsagency to confirm he had the winning ticket.
“I didn’t know what to do or how to act," he said.
“Things like this don’t happen to people like me.
“For me, it’s a lot of money, so I am still trying to get over the shock of it."
Sydney man to spend money on family
While it may take some time for the good news to sink in, the man does have a few ideas on how he will spend the money.
A celebratory breakfast may be on the cards for Thursday, but his family can also expect to enjoy the prize.
“I will definitely share it with my family and spoil the kids,” he said.
“I wouldn’t mind going on a few holidays too.
“Most of it will go to the family though and I am sure they will find lots of ways to enjoy it."
Lin Yang, the owner of Padstow Newsagency where the winning ticket was purchased, was very excited a regular customer won.
“They came in yesterday to check their ticket and they couldn’t believe it," she told The Lott.
“It was so nice to share in the excitement. We were just as happy as they were."
