Man's remarkable $1m discovery while working night shift

A man got a delightful shock after discovering he had won nearly $1 million in lotto draw while leaving his job after finishing up the night shift.

The man from Lara, Victoria, won the division one prize in the TattsLotto's Saturday draw, taking out a total of $965,635.64.

Across Australia there were six winning division one entries in draw number 4143.

The man explained he had just finished the night shift and was walking to his car around midnight when he checked his account and found out he and his wife had won.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw I won division one!" he told an official from The Lott on Tuesday.

“I called my wife straight away and told her. She was so shocked! I have always said we’d win division one, but she couldn’t believe it when it actually happened."

The winning numbers for Saturday's TattsLotto draw were 41, 1, 39, 31, 38 and 21, while the supplementary numbers were 6 and 4.

Man had been playing same numbers for 20 years

As it turns out, the man has been using those numbers for quite some time.

“I actually picked these numbers about 20 years ago! I was given a book about how to win the lottery and so that’s how I picked my numbers," he explained.

“I have been so close to winning division one in the past, and now the book has finally helped me win division one!”

The couple has a few ideas on how they will be spending their new fortune, paying off their mortgage is a definite, though travelling is also on the agenda.

“It will allow us to do more travel as well," he said.

"In the meantime, we will keep exploring Australia, but then we would love to do more international travel, particularly through Europe.”
