McDonald's stays open despite staffer testing positive for coronavirus

A McDonald’s worker in Melbourne’s north has been diagnosed with coronavirus but the restaurant will remain open.

The staffer, who worked at Macca’s in Fawkner, is self-isolating at home after last working at the restaurant on April 30, a McDonald’s Australia spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo News Australia.

“There is no suggestion the employee was exposed to COVID-19 in the restaurant,” the spokesperson said.

“The health and safety of our people and our customers is our priority. We have notified all restaurant employees and received official confirmation of a positive diagnosis from the Department of Health this morning (Thursday).”

The spokesperson added the restaurant “implements strict cleaning, quality control and hygiene procedures throughout every shift at each of its restaurants”.

“McDonald’s response, including its communication with its employees and sanitisation procedures, is above and beyond the Department’s requirements and the restaurant is approved to remain open,” the spokesperson said.

The health department has been contacted for comment.
