Cop wanted to have sex with child: court
A member of the Australian Federal Police has been slapped with fresh charges as he faces allegations he contacted a child under 16 years old for sex.
AFP protective services officer James Christopher Goodall was charged with five new offences in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
The court was told those charges include using a carriage service to contact a person under 16 years with the intention of procuring the child to engage in sexual activity with him, using a carriage service to send indecent material to a child under 16 years, using a carriage service to send child pornography to himself and using a carriage service to send abuse material to himself.
The Commonwealth will allege the offending happened in Brisbane between August 2017 and August 2021.
Mr Goodall was also charged with a fifth offence of using a carriage service to send child abuse material, which allegedly occurred between January 2022 and March 2022 in Melbourne.
In October last year, Mr Goodall was arrested and charged with one count of using a carriage service to groom a person under 16 years of age.
During his brief court mention on Friday, Commonwealth prosecutor Daniel Trigger said the prosecution would offer no further evidence for the alleged grooming offence.
The charge was dismissed.
Mr Goodall is yet to enter any plea to the five fresh charges.
He remains on bail with strict conditions.
The court was told those conditions included that Mr Goodall didn’t have any direct or indirect contact with a child under 16, only had access to one smartphone and he couldn’t use the internet for any reason unless it’s connected with education, banking, medication, medical communication or legal representatives.
Mr Goodall is also banned from contacting the complainant.
The court had previously been told in October that Mr Goodall was suspended from the AFP.
The matter will return to court in August.
According to the AFP website, protective service officers protect important places, like Parliament House in Canberra and defence sites. They also provide security to the diplomatic community and are first responders to criminal and national security threats.
