Commuters shocked by man clinging to outside of moving train

A man has been caught on video dangerously clinging to the doors of a moving carriage as it sped through a subway, shocking commuters who watched in disbelief.

The young man couldn’t get in the train doors before they closed, so he decided to hang on as it left the station, a witness who filmed the foolish stunt has said.

The clip showed the man clinging onto the outside of the carriage doors as the train sped between stations for just over one minute, through a pitch black tunnel.

One woman can be seen in the clip watching in disbelief to see the man hanging on for dear life, while another passenger facing the other way, wearing headphones, appears oblivious.

Once the train came to a stop, he jumped off and went on his way.

Matthew Beary filmed the unbelievable act around 8.30am Friday, on New York’s C train. He told CBS the man train surfed from the Clinton-Washington station to Lafayette Avenue.

“When the subway doors close on you but you’re determined to get to work on time,” Mr Beary wrote while sharing images of the daredevil act on Instagram.

“The woman next to me had her mouth agape with her hand over it, in the classic shocked posture, the entire time,” he described.

“For the Mets hat guy not to notice makes total sense, he seems engrossed in his music and phone like most people are in the morning, plus the surfer wasn’t making any noise at all.

“What blows my mind is how nonchalant the mildly concerned woman is watching him, like, ‘If he dies, he dies’,” he added.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the stunt was illegal and deadly, while the NYPD said it was investigating the incident.
